It’s almost February and Valentine’s day gimmicks and preparation are now on its peak. This is very true and noticeable for many people, especially for those who wanted to celebrate the day with style and romantic colors.
But did you know that Valentine’s day also have its dark or not so romantic side? Well aside form the facts and trivia I posted weeks ago about Valentine’s day and things that happened at the same day it is being celebrated, there are also known stats and data that makes this day not that special to some. Here are few of those unromantic facts about February 14 or Valentine’s Day.
Suicide Rates Goes Up
The reason behind this fact is relationship problem. Those people who are having some kind of problems with their family or other half tend to become depress and lonely while Valentine’s day is approaching. Some aren’t able or not that strong enough to deal with it hence, making them to commit suicide as a quick solution for it.
STD Cases Increases
Probably you know the reason why STD cases tends to goes up at this time of the year. Although it can’t be directly associated with the Valentine’s day celebration, stats and figures shows that February is the critical month for STD cases. Well, because of this, Condom sales around the globe increases as well.
Demand For Pregnancy Test Kit Increases
Increase in sales and demand for pregnancy test kits and alike tend to happen not exactly February, but for the month of March, a month after Valentine’s Day. This contributes to the increase in number of newborn babies in winter.
Great Relationship Breaks Because of Valentine’s Day
It is once said that almost “53 percent of women would dump their boyfriend if they didn’t buy them anything on Valentine’s Day.” Also, around 35 percent of men would prefer not to receive a gift, whereas 20 percent of women feel the same way. So basically, gifts and failure to make Valentine’s day a special day for your partner might result into a devastating ending of a good relationship.
A bit exaggerated words or thought but that’s what I can think of about this one. There is about 15 percent of women send themselves flowers, chocolates or any kind of gifts on Valentine’s Day. This is how they celebrate their Valentine’s day, especially for single women who are kind of feeling depress and hopeless when this time of the year comes. Sad but this one really happens around.
And this last one is a shocker!
Last February 15,2011, about 80 arrests were made in Malaysia by the Islamic morality police in an operation to stop Muslims celebrating Valentine’s Day. Yes, it happened. Read about it in here via BBC.CO.UK.
