I am lucky enough to set up an email interview with one of the finest Filipina travel blogger of this generation. Her website is truly one of the best travel blog I have ever known because of information rich contents along with awesome photos of each and every place she visited. Some of you may know her already and some may not. But for sure, a lot of us may know her as the usual and casual travel blogger but upon checking out her interview answers, I learned that she is more than just an ordinary travel blogger.
1). Please tell our readers a little something about your self.
I’m Violy the blogger behind Vivi’s Random Ramblings. Most of my friends call me Vi and since my surname also starts with a V (Vallester) I named my blog Vivi. I’m a CPA by profession, a business woman at night (owner of HomeFashionShoppe), a proud home owner, a photography enthusiast, a poet, a book lover, an old soul and a traveler at heart.
2. What’s different or special about your travel blog site?
My blog is about traveling thru my pictures, sad truth is that not all of us has the resources to travel. I want the visitors of my blog to have that feeling of “being there” of seeing these places I’ve been to through my pictures.
3. Any unexpected experiences during your travel and how did you handle it? What’s the best and worst experiences so far?
Unexpected, I will choose my trip to Mekong River in Vietnam. I was expecting too much, left Ho Chi Minh so early in the morning, but since I joined a tour group we left the city late plus its infamous traffic and so many road constructions, when we arrived there the floating market was long gone, nothing much to see and worst of all,we had a low tide. Our boat can’t hardly move, we were hitting the mud. Cases like this instead of getting frustrated, just enjoy the place however you can, and wish for luck next time.
Best experience will always be that awesome feeling of stepping into an unfamiliar territory. Of knowing that finally here you are, about to explore one of the amazing places on earth. It’s always the same feeling everywhere I go. And of course meeting different people all over the world and winning friends.
Worst is not knowing the locals’ native tongue. I explored Assisi one time and I got lost in its enchanted alleys. I can’t find my way out and no one from the locals can speak English and I felt so bad that I did not find time to learn their Language. It took me forever to retrace my steps to get back to our tourist bus.
4. What’s the most important stuff you always bring with you when travel blogging (aside from the camera and computers) and why?
Extra money and my passport. You’ll never know what’s going to happen and you should always be prepared for any eventuality. You always need your identification wherever you go when you are in foreign country and make sure to always have extra cash on hand.
5. Who influenced you in travel blogging? Who are your idol/s in the travel blogging niche [Filipino Travel Bloggers].
I started blogging knowing no one in the industry. During my Boracay trip last year I met an amazing lady, a college professor In Manila, she’s a traveler too and she asked me how come I am not blogging with all that i have to offer. I am needing an outlet too during that time to share my experiences and my thousands of travel photos so I tried blogging. When I joined Filipino Travel Bloggers on fb, other bloggers started to recognize my blog and I ended up meeting so many travel bloggers online. My idol is Pinay Travel Junkie, she travels the world with her hubby and her baby in tow. Would love to do that too but I don’t think I can afford it!
6. What other places/countries are on your wishlist? What’s special with those places?
I would love to explore Greece, specially their famous Santorini but this time hopefully with my husband since it is one of the most romantic places in the world. Egypt, I don’t want to die and leave this world not seeing those famous Sphinx! Turkey because this country is so rich with culture and sights to see. Korea for their architecture that always fascinates me. Plus local places in the Philippines, I just started on my local travels too and yet to see so many places. Would love to explore all our 7,100 islands. I’m planning a trip to Bohol soon and would love to go back to Palawan again and explore El Nido this time.
7. What are the best places you have traveled and blogged about so far?
First in my list would be Florence, it is 2012 #2 best city in the world according to Travel + Leisure , it is the capital of Tuscany and the center of Renaissance in Italy and is home to greatest artistic treasures in the world. Walking its streets feels like stepping back to history.
Second would be Venice, too crowded yes, but It is indeed one of the most romantic cities in the World, from their famous gondola to their mysterious alleys, there’s something in the air here that will just change your mood in a snap.
Third would be Dubai, It offers the best of everything, from the tallest building in the world , Burj Khalifa – , to the world’s largest malls, to world famous fountains, world largest artificial Islands, world class aquariums, world famous exhibitions and trade shows, ski resort, beaches, dune bashing, souks , their world class hotels and luxury homes.
8. Any travel blogging tip you wanted to share with our readers?
Blogging is not easy. My blog is not even a year old and I have already experienced the best and worst part of blogging. You have to have the guts to blog, if you are sensitive to negative comments about what you write, Blogging may not be for you. Just be yourself, follow your passion and everything will follow.
As a traveler, don’t be scared to go out of your comfort zone. Life is too short, enjoy it while you can! Work hard, save more and follow what your heart desires, if its traveling then save for that trip you’ve been wanting to have and just go for it. There is nothing impossible in life, like my favorite post in my blog, if you can dream it, you can make it happen!
Thank you very much Ms. Violy for giving some of your precious time to answer this mini interview.
By the way, there are some jobs that require travel that you might find awesome. By having a job wherein traveling is one of the requirements, then for sure, you can become a great travel blogger like her.
