Yacht fanatics, take note. If you’re dreaming of sailing off on the summer seas to somewhere altogether sunnier, there is a group of ‘super marinas’ that you could be aiming for. The slight catch is that it can cost almost £3,000 a night to leave your beloved boat in a berth. So, visit your yacht specialist to get your boat looking its best and get yourself into one of these mega marinas.
If you have a spare several thousand euros lying around, you’ll be able to buy yourself a night moored up in prestigious Capri marina, with enough space for 10 super-yachts. Though don’t think you can sail right into the world’s most expensive marina and claim your spot – berths must be booked months in advance, with the world’s super-rich clamouring for a spot at this exclusive yachting haunt. A-list celebrities swarm to Capri, so you’d better get your yacht looking its best.
Porto Cervo, Italy
This has a little more space, so while it isn’t quite as exclusive, you have more chance of getting your super-yacht one of the 60 spots in Sardinia’s Porto Cervo. It attracts only the classiest clientele, and Italy’s societal elite can be spotted here in the hot summer months when the city heat becomes unbearable.
Completing the Holy Trinity of the world’s top three most expensive marinas is another Italian offering: Portofino in Liguria. Space is at a premium here, with just six spots for super-yacht berthing, so if you want to stay here you need to make sure your request is in far in advance. This is a marina for the less flashy, more low-key members of European high society. It’s perfect if you want a secret, quiet getaway, as the marina can be accessed by a single narrow road.
Ibiza Magna, Spain
Party animals flock to Ibiza in their thousands every summer to take advantage of the island’s wild nightlife, but if you’d prefer to explore the Balearic island in comfort, book your yacht in for a spot in one of Ibiza Magna’s 12 berths. Just a short stagger from clubbers’ favourite Pacha, this is certainly a marina for those who enjoy their evenings wild and their parties endless.
St Tropez, France
There are 30 spots for super-yachts in St Tropez, meaning your chances of spotting some members of the world’s super-rich are fairly high. This is well-known as one of the top places to be for anyone who wants to live a lifestyle fit for the rich and famous, but its real appeal is its beautiful location on the French Riviera. Expanses of rippling blue water, stretches of white sand and never-ending blue skies make this the perfect picture postcard getaway spot.
