If you are a regular reader or visitor of this humble blog of mine, you surely already read my article about the freelancer problems I am facing right now. I am keeping up with them, and slowly but surely, I am starting to overcome them.
For me to eradicate some of the common freelancer problems I have, aside from a bit of house improvement, I also need additional stuff. Below is a list of the things I have in mind that I believe can help me become a more effective work-at-home dad.
As of now, I don’t have any kind of dedicated home office. I am planning to have one, and this time, I want something that is sound or distraction-proof.
Backup Internet Connection
To earn online, I rely heavily on my Internet connection. My family and I can’t live without it. But there are times when the connection bogs down due to faulty wiring and cables, and some other reasons the Internet provider alone knows. When this happens, it usually takes two days to get the Internet fixed. Given my situation, I can’t wait that long, or else, my online ventures and work are doomed.
This is why I need a backup connection. A simple broadband Internet in the form of a USB modem will do. I just need to boost reception at home – and I might need a 3G booster for that – to make it a reliable backup that works to its fullest capacity.
Hands-Free Cell Phone
As a parent with two kids, one of whom is still a baby needing full attention, it’s kinda hard to juggle things. When my wife and eldest child are in school, I am left alone with my little kiddo. You know how babies are, and that means, there are times when I have to carry him all day long. (He’s a daddy’s boy and I am proud of it!)
I am OK with that setup and not complaining about it. But when an important client, website partner or possible client calls me up, this is where the problem comes in. Why? Well, I need to pick up the phone, but with both my hands occupied (the baby in one, typing with the other), it’s hard for me to do that. This is where a wireless spy earpiece a la James Bond gadget might come in handy. The said gadget can give me a hands-free cell phone that I can use at home (or wherever I go).
Now you ask, why do I choose the spy earpiece over other wireless ones? It’s so small and can fit easily inside my ear. Also, my kiddo won’t notice that I have it, or else, he will surely grab it.
I think that’s it for now. More of my plans and ideas will come out here soon, so better watch out (in case you want to follow and hear my freelancer, work-at-home dad life story).
So what do you think of my plans? Are they reasonable and practical enough?
