The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation Team or better known now as the Cobra-Philippine Dragon Boat Federation showed their undeniable strength and paddling talent to capture sparkling five-gold and two-silver at their campaign in the 10th International Dragon Boat Federation World Championships in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Even though there are various obstacles and major lack of funding and support from the government (concerned group and organization) itself and concerned agencies, our very own Pinoy superstars placed themselves, the Philippines and Filipino community to the highest global power in the dragon boat racing competition.

Although this is a big win for them and for us, Filipinos, we are still kind of disappointed because, if there is only proper funding and support from the concerned bodies, then maybe, our very own Philippine Dragon Boat Federation Team or Dragon Warriors could have depend their title (200m titles) at the standard play category (24 members plus drummer and steerer) in this year’s world championship. We are only able to compete at the small boat division (crew of 10 plus a drummer and steerer) due to the lack of funding.

But still, this major win is a good one and calls for a major celebration.

The Philippines Dragon Boat Federation also won gold medals in the 2007 at 2009 world championships. The team is the current title and world record holder of this prestigious event and competition. Their foreign competitors are stunned and amazed of the skills the Pinoy paddlers have and according to them, our team is the team to beat, the power house and their inspiration as well in terms of dragon boat racing. It was evident to them that its the heart, determination, passion and discipline that sets our athlete’s mind and body to the highest competition level ever.

For sure, after this world record and stunning performance of the team, there will be many private group of people and sectors that are willing to sponsor them and give them the financial fund they need for them to perform better and get the recognition they really deserve.
