Filipino Tattoos Mini History
Tattooing is a part of the very first Filipino tribal life. According to the history, When the Spanish visited and set their foot here in the Philippines, the very first group of people they met are tribal people of Visayas who have a full body tattoo.
During the good old day, Filipino tattoos are some kind of a tribal form of rank and accomplishments. Filipino tattooing was first documented by the European Spanish explorers as they landed among the Islands in the late 16th century. Tattooing was set around mostly Tribal groups of the Philippines, which tattooing was a sign of rank and power in the tribal community.
Women in early Philippine tribal society also traditionally tattooed themselves, and tattooing was seen as a form of beauty among women. Notably women of the Luzon mountain tribes received full arm and chest tattooing, whilst in the Visayas and Mindanao they typically only tattooed their hands and wrists.
As of today, Filipino tattoos comes in different forms. The most popular Filipino tattoo art is the 3 stars and a sun representing Philippines (SUN) and Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao (3 stars). It was popularized by no other than the Filipino master rapper himself, Francis Magalona.
